De Beers Diamond Jewellers have named the latest group of inspirational women that will feature in its charitable Moments in Light project, which is set to be unveiled on the first day of London Fashion Week
The De Beers Diamond Company has once again teamed up with LVMH, unveiling the duo's joint 'Moments in Light' initiative, which raises money for Women International – a non profit organisation that raises awareness and funds for female survivors of war.
This year's project will see De Beers providing financial support for six different programs that support 25 women in five different countries including Kosovo, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Iraq and Rwanda. The grants secured from the upcoming event will fund classrooms in the aforementioned countries enabling women to learn new skills and rebuild their lives in the wake of the hardships they have endured.
This year, De Beers Diamond Jewellers and LVMH have commissioned photographer Mary McCartney to shoot four carefully selected inspirational women. The chosen four include British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, model and actress Liya Kebede, jazz singer and pianist Diana Krall and signer and actress Karen Mok.
A short film shot by McCartney will also air on the De Beers website. The portraits will exhibit in London on September 18 and the event surrounding the unveil will fall on the first day of London Fashion Week (LFW), featuring a performance from Krall herself.

Le donne ispirano le donne

De Beers Diamond Jewellers ha rivelato i nomi del gruppo di donne ispiratrici che appariranno nei suoi progetto benefico “Moments in Light”. Le donne scelte per quest’anno sono l’architetto Zaha Hadid, la modella e attrice Liya Kebede, la cantante jazz e pianista Diana Krall e la cantante e attrice Karen Mok. Per il secondo anno De Beers Diamond Jewellers, una joint venture tra la società di diamanti De Beers e il gruppo LVMH, ha scelto Mary McCartney per realizzare le foto che verranno ufficialmente presentate a Londra il 18 settembre e online su momentsinlight.co.uk lo stesso giorno. De Beers ha lanciato l’iniziativa già lo scorso anno per raccogliere fondi per Women for Women International che si occupa delle donne sopravvissute alla guerra. «Con l’aiuto delle ispiratrici del progetto a 200 donne provenienti da alcune delle comunità più emarginate nei paesi colpiti da conflitti sarà data l’opportunità di avere il loro momento di luce e cambiare la loro vita» ha affermato Brita Fernandez Schmidt, direttore esecutivo del Women for Women International UK. Infatti, grazie a questa iniziativa, verranno aiutate le donne in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Iraq e Rwanda attraverso il finanziamento di aule che le aiuteranno ad acquisire nuove competenze e a migliorare la loro vita. Le testimonial di quest’anno appariranno anche in un cortometraggio girato da McCartney in cui parleranno del loro mestiere spiegando come hanno raggiunto il successo e in che modo sono state sostenute.

Armed with her signature piano style, cool but sensual singing, and fountain-of-youth good looks, Diana Krall took the sold-out audience on an amazing journey of music that included beautiful covers of ‘Desperado’, ‘California Dreamin’and Bob Dylan’s ‘Wallflower’.
